The Importance of Preparing For A Minnesota Winter
Every winter, the snow never fails to fall in Minnesota. It even comes at the most unexpected times, such as the middle of October! The average annual amount of snowfall in Minnesota varies from about 36 inches in southwest Minnesota to more than 70 inches near the Lake Superior highlands (Minnesota Department of Natural Resources). Last year, Central Minnesota saw a heavy amount of snow lasting even longer than the normal winter season. With all of the snow comes a lot of shoveling and plowing of your driveway. Plowing can be time consuming, however, it is very important to plow your driveway properly to avoid accidents.
Accidents that occur because of snow and ice on your driveway can and cannot involve a vehicle. Some common winter accidents are:
- Broken arms and legs
- Fractures in the arms or legs
- Driving into a garage door due to difficult braking
- Backing into another vehicle due to difficult braking
Not only can these accidents happen to you or your family, but it could happen to visitors coming to your home or business. The Although the severity of the accidents vary, it is better to be safe than sorry. Snow has already fallen in Central Minnesota and winter is just around the corner so it is important to prepare for the season!
