Minnesotans may currently be in the middle of some of the coldest temperatures of the year, but that doesn’t mean that you have to spend your season indoors. With so many excellent winter activities available, make the most of your winters in the great outdoors! Take a look at some of our favorite activities that will help you enjoy Minnesota winters:
Attend a Winter Festival
Looking to add some dazzling entertainment to your winter routine? Minnesota has a plethora of excellent winter festivals that cater to all ages and interests. From the music events in the cities to the light events up north, our winter festivals remind us of just how beautiful and enchanting Minnesota can be in the winter season. Take a look at some of Minnesota native Andrew Zimmern’s favorite winter festivals.
Hit the Slopes
If you are an adrenaline-junky, hitting the slopes on skis, snowboards, or even a snow tube can be a great choice! Minnesota has plenty of fun ski resorts for you to brave the cold in, whether you are a novice or a master of the slopes. Check out the Minnesota Ski Association for a full list of ski resorts across the state. Whether you are searching for the steepest slopes in the state or some small tobogganing hills, there’s no shortage of spots in Minnesota for your winter fun!
Play Some Pond Hockey
For a quintessential Minnesotan winter activity, get out on the ice and play some hockey. Whether you are teaching your kids to skate or helping them drill for the playoffs, they will remember time spent on the ice with you for years to come. Invite the neighbors or relatives over for a scrimmage!
Play in the Snow
For kids, no season is quite as enchanting as winter. Recapture some of the adolescent magic and play in the snow. Pull on the snow pants and heavy boots to build snowmen, forts, and sculptures with the children in your life. Revisit some of your favorite childhood snow games, or check out this list from care.com.
Go Ice Fishing
Gather a few friends and a fishing pole and head out to the lake. From the warmth of a fish house, ice fishing can be an excellent way to spend time out of the house with family or friends. Bring snacks, cards, and some music to make it a relaxing time. Visit minnesota-visitor.com for some delicious recipes for Minnesota fish.
With so many festivals, ski resorts, and yards blanketed with snow, there’s not shortage of fun to be found this winter. For more winter fun, check out last year's Fun in the Snow blog. Just make sure to warm up with plenty of flannel blankets and mugs of hot chocolate when you are done!
To spend more time playing and less time shoveling, contract Ehlinger Lawn Services to learn more about our snow removal services. For snowfalls of an inch or greater, day or night, we will clear your walkways and driveways so that you can get out and enjoy your winter adventures!
